Blu-ray disc and its growing popularity

Blu Ray disc is the next big thing in the world of technology and is a futuristic optical disk which is all set to take over the home entertainment industry. More importantly is a good alternative to DVD’s. As a matter of fact, the Blu-ray disc has been explored by a number of international manufacturers of electronic items across the globe known as Blu-ray disc association or BDA, and includes big names like Apple, Dell, Hitachi, JVC and many others.

Another important feature which is increasing the popularity of blu-ray discs is the storage capacity. The capacity of this disc is about five times the storage space of the DVD - about 50 GB. Blu-ray disc looks like an ordinary DVD disc, that means one shall not be able to notice any outward physical difference on comparison to DVD discs. Blu-ray discs are therefore of the similar size as DVDs and any player is capable of playing Blu-ray discs will also be able to DVDs and CDs.

The difference lies in the color of the lasers used for Blu-ray discs is blue as against red laser used for DVDs and CDs.
